To not only provide a great family entertainment value, but to make a positive impact on our community and its youth. To give hope where hope had disappeared and to provide a springboard to the next chapter of young men's lives, because everyone deserves a second chance to do something memorable for what everyone can be proud of.
Purpose:
One of the most important reasons this organization was formed was to help young men that for one reason or another coming out of high school were unable to gain admittance into College. We have found a unique way to assist any player who wants to gain entrance into College and play sports to become eligible under the NCAA Clearing House rules.
The NCAA rules state that to be eligible to participate, a student athlete must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and a minimum score of 820 on the SAT. Many student athletes fail to met the 820 SAT score and are denied entrance, thus ending 85% of these students hopes of going to College.
Now with the Port City Chargers there is "NEW HOPE". Unlike going to a Jr. College where a student athlete uses one or more of his 4 years of playing eligibility. They would play for us only using their "Red Shirt" year and still have 4 full years to play and compete.
Requirements:
The player must attend a Community College (like Cape Fear) for 2 consecutive semesters taking 4 classes = 12 hours of transferable credits totaling 8 classes = 24 credits and maintain a 2.0 GPA ("C" average). Once this has been completed the student athlete becomes eligible to TRANSFER into a College or University of their choice to play sports as a walk-on or a scholarship athlete. The College or University is not required to ask what the students high school GPA or SAT scores were and they are fully eligible for play based on the NCAA Clearing House eligibility rules.
